A group of archaeologists and university students recently discovered an ancient gold necklace in an excavation project at Vatnsfjördur in Ísafjardardjúp in the West Fjords, the one that lasts for summers and always reveals vestiges of the past.
Vatnsfjördur was established at the beginning of the Era of Establishment which, according to a large number of sources, would have started in the 9th century and later became a house and residence of the chief.
During the excavations, many beautiful objects have been found that are expected to be exhibited shortly.
