Friday night, the Tourism and Antiquities Police managed to arrest 12 antique thieves in Meniya, in Upper Egypt, at the time they were selling 27 stolen items, including, Egyptian metal and black granite statues and scarabs of the same material.
An archaeological committee will inspect the collection in order to verify its authenticity and identify which Ancient Egyptian tombs they originally belonged to.
The suspects had large sums of money and a car with Libyan plates. They said they bought the antiquities from the meniya grave robbers.
