Kásskara: Sunken Land of the Hopi Ancestors

Kásskara: Sunken Land of the Hopi Ancestors

There used to be a fable, commonly imposed as fact on schoolchildren in the United States, that in Columbus' time nearly everyone believed the Earth was flat. Fortunately, this untruth has been quietly abandoned, although it has been supplanted by another myth, this one crediting the ancient Greeks with having first disproved the "flat Earth" concept.

History professor Jeffrey Burton Russell noted that with few exceptions "no educated person in the history of Western Civilization from the third century BC onward believed that the earth was flat—a position that is no doubt true yet still reflects a limited Western perspective. It fails to acknowledge that aboriginal and ancient people, spanning far back into the last ice age, knew the Earth to be spherical. They knew the nature of creation to be cyclical (or vortical), and they acknowledged, revered and cultivated understanding of universal law. Evidence of their seemingly impossible technological manifestations—the Great Pyramid being among the most widely recognized, with many others gaining attention—lies in ruins around the Earth, the implications largely ignored by experts who can't adequately explain them within academically accepted contemporary models.

The Hopi Indians of the American Southwest represent the oldest continuous Native American group in the current United States. Contradicting professional opinion, the Hopi claim they did not come to this continent across the Bering Strait but north from South America, according to Oswald "White Bear" Fredericks, whom I met twice as a teenager through my high school anthropology teacher. White Bear (1905–1996) was the primary Hopi consultant for Frank Waters' Book of the Hopi , a common title in university libraries.

During our current period of history, the Bear Clan supersedes all other clans in authority and serves as the tribe's historians. It preserves the knowledge and memory of Hopi migrations and history, so White Bear proved to be an unusually valuable source. Even if Western orthodoxy won't accept the truth of his startling claims—that technological civilizations have previously arisen and fallen, and that beings from other habitable planets have visited Earth—it must be conceded that his claims are at least ethnographically valid. It's true that the Hopi sincerely believe their tribal history, and it might benefit us to consider seriously what White Bear said.

  • Interpreting the Murals of Egypt through the Eyes of the Hopi

Essentially, White Bear described a succession of cycles, over vast periods of terrestrial time, which involve the development and destruction of societies. Humanity, he said, advances for a long period—a golden age—then progressively loses connection with its true spiritual nature through egoism and avarice, and this disharmony eventually manifests in the three-dimensional realm as natural disasters, conflicts, wars, environmental degradation and disease. In the Western view, these things happen to us; but in the Hopi world-view, spirit and form intimately intertwine, so mankind's disharmonious (evil) deeds manifest in the physical environment as crises.

In the late 1970s, a former NASA engineer named Josef Blumrich enlisted White Bear's help in producing a book in German called Kásskara und die sieben Welten (Kásskara and the Seven Worlds), which has not been published in English. During the course of his research, Blumrich often stayed with White Bear and his wife, Naomi, at their home in Sedona, Arizona. The couple escorted Blumrich to ceremonies on the Hopi reservation, explaining to him what was happening, and arranged for him to interview elders of various clans. Blumrich recorded White Bear, and Naomi transcribed those recordings into a typed and coherent transcript. That manuscript is the basis for Blumrich’s book.

A few years ago, I received a partial copy of the document from Henry Denny, the teacher through whom I met White Bear. I recently searched the web for a complete copy, not expecting to find one, and was surprised to find two sources. I enquired, not hearing from one but learning from the other that she had acquired the document in the same way Henry had—directly from White Bear and Naomi. The quoted passages that follow are slightly edited for publication here.

Kásskara: A Land that Sank into the Pacific Ocean

The document begins with White Bear’s introduction. “This is the history of my ancestors and the clans who came to this land. The continent on which my people lived for a long time was sinking into the sea. The people had to leave it and go to a new continent in the east to make a new beginning.”

White Bear described Kásskara as a continent that sank into the Pacific Ocean. He said Hawaii is a remnant of the Hopi ancestors’ original motherland, and Rapa Nui (Easter Island) is the last remaining of several islands that helped Kásskaran refugees cross the vast expanse of ocean to South America. Kásskara was submerging at about the same time as Atlantis was sinking, although Atlantis went down quickly, White Bear said, due to its heavier negative karma. Because Kásskara's offenses were not as serious, the retribution that its people suffered was lighter and the destruction happened more slowly, allowing the population time to flee.

It was important and necessary, White Bear felt, to inform the world about Hopi history and the previous cycles of advancement and destruction the world has undergone, but he was heavily criticized by some Hopi who believed that he should not have revealed these truths to the masses.

White Bear said: “It is time to speak about our people and to tell you who we are and why we are here in the hope that somebody one day will understand us. Although I am the one who is speaking here, it is the knowledge of the Hopi that you will know. Out of the long story of the Hopi arises a warning for you. You will understand later what I want to say when I tell my story. This is why I speak now. That concerns us all. Perhaps this warning will not come too late."

A Succession of Worlds

According to White Bear, humanity has lived in two other worlds, Tokpela and Tokpa, before emerging into the Third World, Kásskara (coeval with Atlantis), and then into our present Fourth World. These successive worlds generally correspond to various continents, time periods, and changing configurations of global geology through which the Hopi ancestors were granted protection by some very interesting beings whom they call Kachinas—otherworldly denizens with physical bodies who helped them survive planetary cataclysms and directed their migrations. The Kachina dolls known to tourists are simply representations meant to familiarize Hopi children with the various Kachina entities so they don't fear the dancers during ceremonies.

In the First World, the "Taiowa" divinity created humans and all things in this universe. He gave us intelligence and the capacity for knowledge,” White Bear said. "He gave man all he needs in his life, and he gave him the laws and duties in this universe, which man must obey." He explained that the First World was destroyed by fire because people had become malicious. But his people—those who in more recent times became the Hopi—survived the destruction because they had been selected to preserve the knowledge through time. The Second World was destroyed by ice. Once again, his people survived and arrived in the Third World, the third continent. All these and later events are still alive in Hopi ceremonies.

The Third World: Kásskara

"The name of the Third World was Kásskara. Few people today know the significance of this very old word. I learned it from Otto Péntewa (a Hopi elder), who remembered it as the 'mother ground,'" White Bear said. "We also call it ‘the country of the sun' because we like to refer to the sun and soil that keep us alive."

Kásskara was a continent situated mostly south of the equator with a small portion in the north, White Bear said, identical with what we today call Lemuria, or Mu.

"It was a very beautiful country. Compared with today, it was almost a paradise. We worked, but we did not need to work hard. Since our beginnings in the First World, we had followed the plan of our Creator and cultivated our food ourselves," White Bear said. "In those times we had chosen corn as our principal food, and we brought it to the Second World and we continued to live with it in the Third World. When you see our corn, think of the fact that the Hopi have had it since very old times, since the First World."

White Bear explained that the Hopi were given knowledge relating to plants and animals. They could communicate with them. They had scientific knowledge but did not use it to manufacture objects that hurt people.

"People then had respect for one another. The clans had their own bosses, but they had in common a respected spiritual leader. In the life of the Hopi there always was a clan that held supremacy for a certain time in order to ensure that we fulfilled our obligations and responsibilities well—like our good behavior in life," White Bear said. "When we inherited this world, the Clan of the Bow held the leadership. For this reason, the tribe chief of the Clan of the Bow was Kásskara’s sovereign." At the beginning, all was well in Kásskara. Much later, men gradually began to lose respect for one another. Initially, it was just a few, then more and more. "As you see we are exactly like other men. I can compare that with what occurs today in the organizations: people want to have some rank and power; they want their share," White Bear said. "The same thing happened in Kásskara."

Atlantis

To the east of Kásskara was Talawaitichqua, or the "Eastern country," a word that means roughly, "Land of the Morning Sun." White Bear said there was “a large surface of water" between Kásskara and Talawaitichqua, the land we call "Atlantis".

"At the beginning of the Third World, people of Atlantis were as peaceful as we were. We have, of course, the same divine origin. They had the same symbols as we had. But with time they changed. They started to explore the secrets of the Creator that Man should not know. There exist secrets which are only intended for the divinity, and when men started to study them they infringed on this law. In fact, man has the same capacity as the Creator, but the Creator maintains secrets that men should not seek to understand," White Bear said, noting that this matter concerning the secrets is “very serious." He drew a parallel to our time to help us understand what the Hopi believe.

"Your civilization developed many things—airplanes, for example. When my uncle led me to Oraibi to see the ancient inscription of a jet, which is naturally much older than your jets of today, he said to me, 'It would be very good to fly again through the air as our people did in the past,'" White Bear explained. “My uncle said, ‘When there is a catastrophe somewhere far away, one can bring help like food, drugs and tools. But an airplane can also bring death to people hundreds of miles away, and in doing that, one will disobey the divine law.’"

White Bear asked how we can exclude ourselves from responsibility if we assist in conducting research that leads to destructive ends. "Let's suppose that you made a scientific discovery in the field of rocketry and that somebody makes a bad use of your discovery. You would not do it, but it is your discovery," White Bear insisted." Do you really know where your responsibility begins and ends?"

The Hopi do not oppose technology, and they endorse research that will help humanity stay alive and healthy. "The Creator wants us to benefit from this life and do as little heavy work as possible, and he wants all that is good—all the joy, all the happiness of this world, to become ours," White Bear said. "But now [researchers] try to produce artificial life, and one day also a human. Well, these things you should not do!" He said we can summarize all that in two sentences: "The divine Creator said to us, 'If you want to be my children, you should not use your knowledge to destroy, kill or misuse what I gave you. If you do not respect this law, you are not my children.'"

White Bear said that towards the end of the Third World, a very powerful and beautiful woman rose to become Queen of Atlantis. She used her beauty to manipulate the chiefs of her people, receiving so many jewels that she was given the nickname, "the Turquoise Woman." She used her powers to subject these personalities, including scientists and politicians, and in this way became sovereign of the entire continent. White Bear pointed out that Atlantis was similar to England—a small country with great influence. Atlantis eventually extended its reach farther to the east, into what we know today as Europe and Africa.

Athanasius Kircher's map of Atlantis, placing it in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. From Mundus Subterraneus 1669, published in Amsterdam. The map is oriented with south at the top.

"The inhabitants of Atlantis had researched secrets of the Creator for which they were not spiritually ready. They had obtained knowledge of such things too early and used it to subjugate other people. In doing so, they infringed on the divine order. They also studied other planets, and they even went there," White Bear said. "These were dead planets where no one could live, so they had to remain on our good old Earth."

White Bear explained the reasons Atlantis turned against Kásskara. "They knew that morally and spiritually we were much stronger, and that made them envious. This is also why the queen wanted to conquer our country and subjugate our people. She threatened our sovereign [and said she would] join together all her spaceships above our continent and destroy us from up there. But he refused to give in. For a long time talks were held, which one can also call conferences. All the great men of that time held meetings.

‘Terror Antiquus’ (Ancient Horror) (1908) by Léon Bakst. “She threatened our sovereign [and said she would] join together all her spaceships above our continent and destroy us from up there…”

"As I already said, there were among us people who had become avid seekers of status and power. Their religious belief had weakened, and people no longer had respect for one another. We were in a situation which compares very well with the current one."

"Within time the influence of [Atlantis’s queen] led to a schism between our people. She started to get some of our people on her side—those men seeking power, whom I’ve spoken about. They walked away from our laws and said to themselves, ‘If we choose the side of the people of Atlantis and accept their requirements, we might later acquire a fair share of the power.'

"The malicious ones took over. They had studied many secrets of the Creator which humanity should not know, but we did not take part in this. We wanted to be and remain peaceful people. I believe that actually it was the Creator who used his capacity to keep us away from these things.

"The chiefs met many times. But the group of those who had scientific knowledge was much stronger, and they came to attack my people with the material of their capacities and invention," White Bear said. "From very high in the air they directed their magnetic force on our cities. But those of our people who had not left the true way of our Creator were gathered in a certain area in order to be saved."

Myths and Prophecies

The Hopi believe that technological civilizations have arisen previously, much further back in time than most conventionally educated people can accept. Our general cultural timeline sets "Western civilization" as being about 6,000 years old. We vaguely acknowledge that the ancient cultures of China and India might be 8,000 or 10,000 years old, but the notion that there existed any advanced civilization before the end of the last ice age just isn't occurring to most of us. As writer Graham Hancock observed, "We're a species with amnesia."

In the dialogue of Timaeus, even Plato's unfinished account of Atlantis suggests we should push back the dates of civilization to at least 11,000 years. In the account, Solon was told by an Egyptian temple priest at Sais of Egypt's ancient age. "O Solon, Solon, you Hellenes are never anything but children, and there is not an old man among you," the priest said. Solon asked him what he meant. "I mean to say that in mind you are all young; there is no old opinion handed down among you by ancient tradition, nor any science which is hoary with age. And I will tell you why. There have been, and will be again, many destructions of mankind arising out of many causes; the greatest have been brought about by the agencies of fire and water, and other lesser ones by innumerable other causes," he said.

Medieval manuscript of Calcidius' Latin translation of Plato's Timaeus.

The priest explained to Solon that certain myths actually refer to astronomical phenomena. "There is a story, which even you [Greeks] have preserved, that once upon a time Phaeton, the son of Helios, having yoked the steeds in his father's chariot, because he was not able to drive them in the path of his father, burnt up all that was upon the earth, and was himself destroyed by a thunderbolt. Now this has the form of a myth, but really signifies a declination of the bodies moving in the heavens around the earth, and a great conflagration of things upon the earth, which recurs after long intervals…," the priest told him, which may suggest why many ancient cultures diligently monitored astronomical cycles.

Like the Hopi, the temple priest knew that over the ages technological civilizations have been destroyed by cataclysms and forgotten. Today, however, the prevailing attitude among most academics compels them to dismiss Plato's Atlantis tale as fabulous, despite its detail, just as others ignore the advanced mathematics and engineering necessary to have sited and built the Great Pyramid.

The Hopi don't perceive time in a straight line as we tend to. While we may assume that our modern civilization represents a pinnacle of human technological achievement, the Hopi wait patiently on their remote mesas for our version of civilization to disappear, which it inevitably must because it's disharmonious with the laws of the universe.

White Bear said he and other elders had met in a kiva at Shongopovi (Hopiland) to discuss their current situation. "We see at this moment the same things occurring as those that occurred right before the destruction of the Third World. We are concerned because we know what will arrive," White Bear said. "We know that we have reached the point of no return."

Kasskara: Sunken Land of the Hopi Ancestors/Oraibi and Hopi History in North America

* The first Americans DID NOT come over the Bering Strait south, but north from Kasskara, a sunken continent in the Pacific, via Easter Island, South America and Mexico. The Hopi descendants had migrated from the south all the way to "the ice sheet" that extended almost to today's US/Canadian border. The influx of people from the north (the "land bridge") occurred much later.

* The current Hopi 'Aasa Clan' is related to a group formerly called the 'Astak', a group of Hopi ancestors the Spanish called the 'Aztec'.

*Hopi 'Kachinas' represent actual embodied beings that used technological equipment. The dolls bought as souvenirs today are for children and tourists. According to the Hopi, Kachinas are actual beings who came to Earth in ancient times. After helping the Hopi ancestors survive their continent's submergence and migrate to what's now the Americas, these benefactors left.

*Tiwanku (Tiahuanaco) was the first city built by Kachinas in the new South American continent as a home for the refugees of Kasskara--also called 'Lemuria' and 'Mu-Rutas' in India . The Hopis consider Kasskara their original home in the Third World.

It's time, perhaps, to rethink some of our cherished paradigms!

Oraibi is the oldest village on the North American continent that has been continuously inhabited since its foundation. Archaeologists have analyzed wood used in constructing Hopi houses and determined the original village was created at about 1150 A.D., which White Bear said is off by thousands of years. Scientists didn't realize that the buildings they analyzed sat atop other villages lying below the current ruins. White Bear explained:

"The first village was founded 4.000 years ago. Oraibi was not the first village in this area. The very first one was called Shungopovi and was on the second mesa at the foot of the cliff, below the current village which bears the same name. At some point there was an argument between two brothers regarding a woman. The younger brother, Machito, decided to leave the village and to create his own village, which was called 'Oraibi' (Orayvi) , and it is still called this today. Machito, belonging to the Clan of the Bear and knowing all the traditions of his ancestors, brought to Oraibi something which today represents the most valuable of Hopi possessions--the four sacred boards, which his parents gave to him when he decided to create his village.

White Bear explained that several hundred years had elapsed before all the clans that were to come had arrived. Long before the creation of Oraibi, the clans that were to settle there had been selected, and even these selected clans could not come whenever they wished it. "Their Kachinas had to say to them, 'Now it is time for you to go there,' and then they came. It was the last time that the human beings could see their divinities. After that other Kachinas were designated to stay with the clans, but only in a spiritual form and not as a body," White Bear said. "Don't forget it."

He said each clan that wished to come to Oraibi had to settle initially within a few miles of the village. Many ruins in the surrounding area served as such provisional sites. After some time the clans could send their representatives to meet the chiefs in order to request permission to permanently settle. They were asked to explain the history of their migrations--where they had gone, what they had done, and whether they had followed the divine laws. Their complete history had to be reported to the leaders of the Clan of the Bear (this clan had authority due to its non-involvement in the destruction of Kasskara). In order to be accepted, however, it was not enough to have simply finished the migration the clans were also required to specify how they envisioned participating in the ceremonies. "There exists an annual cycle of ceremonies, which is complete only if all the ceremonies of each clan are represented," White Bear said. "Consequently, a clan wanting to settle in Oraibi had to contribute to our cycle with its own ceremony."

The first clans to arrive after the Clan of the Bear were the Clan of the Phantoms (Fire Clan), the Clan of the Spider, and the Clan of the Snake. All these clans brought together only represented a small number of inhabitants because only those clans that had lived in accordance with the plan of the Creator were selected. White Bear explained:

"Certain clans could not be accepted although they had the same origin as us because they had not finished their migrations. They settled in the surroundings and today are called the pueblos tribes. Of course the word 'pueblo' is of Spanish origin, and we always gave them their true name, as for example Si'os, which are now often called Zuni. Other clans were not accepted for other reasons, particularly the Aasa Clan.

Its members lived a certain time in Chaco Canyon, and then they wished to come here. They showed us their ceremony, but our chiefs said, 'We do not need them.' They recalled the fertile fields somewhere in the South and they returned there. Much later they became the big Aztec people. As I already said the Aasa Clan was called at that time 'Astak', which the Spaniards changed it into 'Aztec.' Some members remained in the local area, and this is why we always have an Aasa Clan here.

Several centuries passed before we all were joined together. My mother's clan, the Clan of the Coyotes, arrived last. The Clan of the Coyotes always arrived at the end. It was already the case by leaving Kasskara to come to this continent, and it was the same in Oraibi. That does not suggest that we are slow it is simply our destiny. It is as a signal, for when the Clan of the Coyotes arrives it is the end. After that nobody will be accepted any more. It is also the reason why the Kachinas (in the ceremonies) carry a fox tail in the back. When, after the great journey of Sikyatki, we arrived at Oraibi we were once again the last. Nobody else came to Oraibi after us.

Earth Cataclysms And The Hopi Kachinas, Saviours From Space

In “Kásskara: Sunken Land of the Hopi Ancestors” (18th March 2020), Hopi elder Oswald “White Bear” Fredericks (1905-1996) described the Hopis’ epic migration story as it unfolded through aeons and on several continents, a couple of them now on the ocean floor. Their mythology, which I explain more fully in the first article, essentially envisions a series of “worlds” through which the human being, personally and collectively, must pass, these worlds corresponding generally to vast periods of time and changing configurations of global geology.

White Bear described a succession of cycles through which human societies develop and then self-destruct because they have fallen out of harmony with the intelligent universal force from which all life springs.

According to Hopi mythology, the First World, Tokpela, was destroyed by fire. The Second World, Tokpa, was destroyed by ice. Both conditions may have come about through disturbances in the Earth’s orbit and polar shifts. In the previous article I mentioned that Plato, recounting in Critias his uncle’s Egyptian sojourn, said a temple priest at Sais had told Solon that “a great conflagration of things upon the earth, which recurs after long intervals…” caused the sinking of Atlantis, a notion consonant with the Hopi world view. Kásskara (Lemuria) was coeval with Talawaitichqua (Atlantis) and was destroyed by water, White Bear said, in the following manner:

“The kickmonguity, or Queen of Atlantis, had been threatening Kásskara with destruction from weapons that could be fired from space. Our people had knowledge comparable with the people of Atlantis, but we used it only for good and useful ends. As I already mentioned, we studied the secrets of nature, the power of the Creator in living things,” White Bear said, explaining that his ancestors did not seek revenge and avoided killing even to defend themselves. The Hopi culturally embody Jesus’ admonition not to resist evil: “Turn the other cheek”.

The Shield of Protection

“My people did not defend themselves when [Kásskara was] attacked. And it was right! If that seems strange to you, look at what the Hopi do today. The government of the United States gave us a reservation. Can you imagine? And then they kept coming to cut pieces out of it. They reduced our country more and more. Each time the government does that we say, ‘It is not right’, as we were instructed [to do] by the Creator,” White Bear said, noting that even if his ancestors had not defended themselves actively, they still had their “shield of protection.” He said he could not scientifically explain what this shield was and how it worked, but he described it this way:

“If there is lightning, it reaches our shield, and there it explodes. It does not cross the shield. I remember well how my grandmother showed me the way in which the shield acts. One day when I was still a child, she took a basin and turned it over, saying, ‘Now you are under the basin. If something falls on it, it will not hurt you’. Perhaps I should tell you that she wanted me to repeat all the stories that she told me,” White Bear said. “When I made a mistake she stopped me, and I had to start all over again. It’s why I know by heart all of what my grandmother told me.”

We might, in our modern sophistication, feel tempted to disregard or trivialise White Bear’s grandmother as a credible source of information, but consider that the matrilineal Hopi respect and value wisdom passed down by their elders. His grandmother would not intentionally lie to him, and her insistence that he repeat minor details he hadn’t easily recalled suggests that she took seriously the transmission of this knowledge to her grandson. This transmission is the basis of all oral traditions. The Hopi in their annual cycle of ceremonies re-enact these stories because they consider them too important to be forgotten.

“All the bombs, or whatever they were, exploded far above our heads, and the shield protected all people who were to be saved and had been gathered in a certain area. Cities were attacked and many people perished. Only we were saved. And then—as my grandmother said—somebody pushed the ‘bad button’ and the two continents sank,” White Bear explained. “However, the destruction was not universal. The entire Earth was not destroyed, and not all men were killed. But Atlantis disappeared very quickly into the ocean and our Third World, Kásskara, disappeared very slowly.”

The Laws of the Creator

One interesting feature of the Hopi religious mindset is its similarity to that of certain Eastern religions. The Hopi embrace the idea of reincarnation. They acknowledge “Kundalini energy” and the vortices of psychic vitality called “chakras, and they also recognise the universal law of karma, the spiritual equivalent of Newton’s third law of motion: “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.” The law of karma is also expressed eloquently in the biblical admonition, “As you sow, so shall you reap.” White Bear explained the Hopi view of karma:

“Let us suppose that I want to kill somebody and that I have an accomplice. We agree to do it. Even if it is me that kills, the accomplice does it in thought. But he is not as guilty as me,” White Bear said. “It is the reason for the fast destruction of Atlantis they attacked. We, or some of our people, were only collaborators at the time Atlantis attacked Kásskara. This is why the fault on our side was minor and our group had a new chance. If we had been as guilty as the people from Atlantis, we also would have been quickly destroyed,” he added.

“The power external to the human capacity did not allow that the People of Peace be destroyed completely. These people were reincarnations of men who had lived in the Second World, Tokpa, and who had followed the laws of the Creator. It was His will to give to those who were to be saved the means of succeeding.

“We were saved and we came here because since the First World, Tokpela, we have always obeyed the Divine Laws! We will see now what occurred then and what role the Kachinas played in bringing us to this continent in the Fourth World,” White Bear said.

Kachinas: Emissaries from Space

Since their emergence in the First World, the Hopi and their ancestors remained in a close relationship with Kachinas, who White Bear defined as “initiated, highly ranked, esteemed beings.” They were originally called Kyákyapichina, the plural form of Kyápchina, the term also incorporating the word “chinakane”, which means “growth” as in the growth of a plant, although in this context the word also indicates the spiritual growth that the Kachinas inspire. The language evolved over time, and now these entities are simply called Kachinas.

Kachinas can manifest visibly or invisibly, but White Bear made it clear that these beings come from locations vastly distant from Earth.

“The Kachinas come from space. They do not come from our solar system but from very distant planets. It would require several generations for our astronauts to get there,” White Bear said. “The Hopi name for these planets is Tóónatakha, which means ‘close to each other’, in a spiritual sense rather than a material one because all their inhabitants share the same responsibilities and work closely together. For this reason, the Hopi translate “Tóónatakha” as “Confederation of Planets” and because we know there are 12 such worlds, we also refer to the “Confederation of Twelve Planets”, he explained, adding: “While I pronounce this sentence, they can traverse vast distances. Their vessels fly with magnetic force even when they circle the Earth.”

In 1978, White Bear accompanied my anthropology teacher, Henry Denny, and me to Inscription Canyon near Prescott, Arizona, an area noted for its ancient petroglyphs. He pointed out an equilateral cross on a rock slab, its deeply etched outline suggesting an amniotic enclosure. The glyph pre-dates the birth of Christ, he told us, saying that it anticipated this future divine incarnation. White Bear also showed us a glyph of the aforementioned Confederation of Planets, indicating those inhabited worlds that communicate with each other.

In ancient times it was known among certain people that intelligent beings had come from space and helped cultivate mankind out of its primitive state, but this knowledge was nearly lost when the Earth suffered global and semi-global cataclysms. Some of this knowledge survived in the mythologies of aboriginal people, and even in the West some of this information remained concealed by various powerful institutions, often with contradictory interests, such as Freemasonry and the Roman Catholic Church.

White Bear explained that Kachinas have varying ranks depending upon their capacities. While they’re all called Kachinas‚ some are also called Wuyas, which means “divinity” and denotes an exceptionally wise person.

“Comparing Kachinas and Wuyas with Christian entities, we might say Angels for Kachinas and Archangels for Wuyas. They are all Angels‚ but the highest in rank you would call Archangels. The divinities are positioned above the Kachinas, and above all there is the Creator,” White Bear said. “Only Kachinas are in contact with the human beings‚ not the divinities who only give instructions to the Kachinas.”

The Hopi refer only to Kachinas when familiarising children with the initiated beings. “It would be too difficult to explain the difference to them, and this is where the Kachina puppets serve their role: they accustom children to these beings’ physical appearance so they do not fear seeing the dancers,” White Bear explained, adding that even tourists who buy these puppets call them Kachinas, but it doesn’t really matter if they are unaware of the deeper meanings.

“We do the same thing with the San Francisco mountains [a sacred range southwest of Hopiland]. When children see those high peaks, they understand when we tell them that this is where the Kachinas go when they leave us,” White Bear said, saying that it’s easier for children to understand a high mountain than a distant planet. “Think about what you tell your children about Santa Claus and the child Jesus. But when the children are accepted among the adults‚ the difference is explained. The Kachinas come from a very distant planet, and when they leave us they return there. The men who carry out the dances represent these learned beings who came to us a long time ago,” he said.

White Bear described three kinds of Kachinas. The first involves survival and the continuity of life. In the Hopi dances, these Kachinas appear in mid-winter when in nature all life sleeps.

“They offer the certainty to us that life will return and continue and as reincarnation belongs to the continuity of life‚ it means that we will take birth again and have the possibility to improve,” White Bear said.

The second group consists of the teachers. “We learn from them who we are and where we are‚ what transformations we can undergo and what we must do,” he noted.

The third group represents the guardians of the law. “They are the ones who warn us. They explain to us patiently what not to do,” White Bear said, “but in time they stop informing us and start punishing us for any evil we do.”

White Bear reported that children have been born following a “mystical relation” between Hopi women and Kachinas. “There was a physical proximity between our people and Kachinas. We could touch them. But even if that seems strange‚ they never had sexual relations. The children were conceived in a mystical way,” he said, apparently referring to the phenomenon called “virgin birth” in Christian doctrine.

“Such children‚ when grown, possessed great knowledge and wisdom and sometimes even supernatural capacities, which they had received from their spiritual father,” White Bear explained. “They were splendid, powerful men who were always ready to help but never to destroy.”

Flying Shields and Magnetic Fields

White Bear made it clear that Kachinas have physical bodies. “That’s why they need vessels to travel in our skies and return to their planets,” he said, adding that the spaceships have various sizes and names. “One name is Patoowa, ‘the object which can fly above water’. Pahu means ‘water’ in our language, and Toowata is ‘an object with a curved surface’. Because of this form, we also call it a ‘flying shield’. I will tell you what it resembles: if you cut a calabash [gourd] in two‚ a form is obtained with the aspect of a saucer. You may assemble two of these and approximate the shape of the vessel which they used formerly to go to these planets. A pilot sitting inside can move the craft in all the directions and does not lose balance regardless of speed. Because of this form, we call it Inioma,” he said.

I haven’t been able to locate a definition for Inioma beyond White Bear’s description that suggests the occupants were unaffected by the ship’s velocity. It’s also clear that White Bear believed that the spaceships flew by somehow utilizing magnetic or gravitational fields.

The Hopi know that some of their ancestors flew in these spaceships, which had also been used in other countries. In India, for example, they were called Vimanas. “People from Atlantis came to us in these vessels. Near Oraibi there is a petroglyph representing a woman in a flying shield. The arrow signifies high speed,” he said. “You can see that she carries the hair of a married woman.”

Describing these spaceships, White Bear said the two halves are held together by a “support” which the pilots must actuate. When they turn a lever to the right‚ the ship goes up. When they turn it to the left‚ it goes down.

“The vessels do not have engines like aeroplanes and do not use fuel. They fly in a magnetic field. Pilots must only know the adequate height. If they want to move towards the east‚ they choose a certain height. If they want to go north‚ they choose another height. It is enough to go up to the height corresponding to the selected direction and the vessel flies in the desired direction. This way, they can reach any place inside our atmosphere and can also leave the Earth,” White Bear said. “It is very simple!”

Toowakachi, The Fourth World

It’s clear that the Hopi embrace a world view which is more expansive, timeless and wondrous than our own. Members of our “modern culture” are slowly abandoning the anthropocentric view that humanity represents a pinnacle of Creation. Life must exist elsewhere in the Universe and permeate it.

It took our clever culture of reason and science hundreds of years to apprehend knowledge that the Hopis have embodied all along—awareness that malicious human activity, including large-scale warfare and wilful environmental destruction, disturbs a delicate balance that directly harms all life on the planet. The Hopi say they know what’s coming because their ancestors have seen this inevitable cycle play out before.

After a great war between Kásskara and Talawaitichqua—the land we call Atlantis—Kásskara had begun slowly sinking, while Atlantis submerged quickly. A long time before Kásskara and Atlantis had been “absorbed into the earth” as White Bear described it, the Kachinas had noticed a continent to the east emerging from the water. “It was the same country as that we had lived on in our Second World, Tokpa, but its appearance was different, so now we called it ‘Toowakachi’— the Fourth World,” he said, referring to the continent we today call South America.

The Kachinas had been monitoring this emerging land mass, and when a sufficient portion was above the water, they began preparing for great migrations to this new continent, White Bear explained. These migrations spanned centuries. The Creator had decided to save these people and directed the Kachinas to help them reach this new homeland.

The initial groups, consisting of those essential to the development of infrastructure such as planners and engineers, arrived on various types of flying craft. The largest groups of immigrants were transported using reed boats via a chain of islands, Easter Island being the only one still above water. ∞

The Mysterious Past of the Hopi: From Kásskara to the Americas

In parts one and two of this series, Hopi elder Oswald “White Bear” Fredericks (1905–1996) detailed the remote origins of his tribe, a history many thousands of years old. It includes a sunken continent in the Pacific, along with interstellar entities called Kachinas who helped refugees from this drowning land resettle on South America’s west coast via a chain of islands.

Periodic Global Catastrophes

The original Hopi homeland in the Third World, located in the Pacific Ocean, was called Kásskara, also known as Mu. Kásskara was coeval with Atlantis, a technological civilisation that White Bear said existed in the Atlantic. Plato described Atlantis in his dialogue Timaeus, detailing how one of the Egyptian temple priests at Sais had given this information to his uncle, Solon, along with the good-natured chide that Egypt had documented a history that made the Hellenes (Greeks) seem like children by comparison.

It’s “a tale which, though strange, is certainly true”, Critias tells Socrates, portraying Atlantis with such exacting specificity that one may suspect the story is accurate.

Crucially, a key feature of the story accords with Hopi tradition. It advances the disconcerting notion that planetary cataclysms happen periodically—at regular intervals. While Egyptian history includes several of these global destructions, modern people remember only one—the Great Deluge or biblical Flood, as Critias reports that the temple priest told Solon:

And whatever happened either in your country or in ours, or in any other region of which we are informed—if there were any actions noble or great or in any other way remarkable, they have all been written down by us of old, and are preserved in our temples. Whereas just when you and other nations are beginning to be provided with letters and the other requisites of civilised life, after the usual interval, the stream from heaven, like a pestilence, comes pouring down, and leaves only those of you who are destitute of letters and education and so you have to begin all over again like children, and know nothing of what happened in ancient times, either among us or among yourselves. As for those genealogies of yours, which you just now recounted to us, Solon, they are no better than the tales of children. In the first place, you remember a single deluge only, but there were many previous ones…

The New Land in the East

White Bear explained that the people who became the modern Hopi had originated in Kásskara, although not everyone from Kásskara became Hopi. The people of this continent, of which Hawaii is a remnant, defended themselves in warfare with Atlantis that led to the destruction of both civilisations. White Bear reported that otherworldly beings called Kachinas, who flew in spacecraft, had seen a continent emerging out of the water to the east, and they helped his ancestors reach this rising new continent that we know as South America.

“It was the same country as that we had lived on in our Second World, Tokpa, but its appearance was different, so now we called it the Fourth World,” White Bear said.

According to Hopi tradition, the Earth has switched its poles several times, meaning that the North Pole was at the place where the South Pole is currently and vice versa.

“In the Fifth World, it will change again. On each occasion, the Earth tilted completely from north to south and not halfway,” White Bear explained. “That would have caused too much damage and was not the Creator’s intention, except once during the Second World when the Earth tilted only halfway and everything froze.”

The Kachinas observed this new land, and when it was above water, they began preparing for a great migration of Kásskaran refugees to the emerging continent that would become their motherland, White Bear said.

“The Hopi call it the Fourth World, Toowakachi,” he noted, adding that the word ‘sistaloakha’ designates everything that is created quickly and in perfect form. The Creator had decided to save them and directed the Kachinas to help the people reach this new continent. These colonists migrated from the Third World to the Fourth in three types of vehicles.

Mishongnovi—“Petroglyphs found near Mishongnovi, Arizona, depict ‘flying shields’ and ant-like gods who assisted the ancient Hopi.”

“The initial group arrived in ‘flying shields’ (spaceships). These were assigned to important, high-ranking people who had priority because they were tasked with establishing the new colony. The Kachinas, being space travellers, knew where the new land was, and they brought these esteemed leaders first. The Kachinas could do that because they had flying shields. Our people did not have them, and we could not build them, but you recall that people of Atlantis also had flying shields. They did not receive them from the Kachinas, who had left them behind, but re-engineered them with their malevolent power, as I have told you.”

Arrivals of the Clans

The first clans reached Toowakachi a long time before Kásskara had sunk completely. Among the more important of the groups that arrived by the flying shields were the Clan of Fire, the Clan of the Snake, the Clan of the Spider, the Clan of the Bow, the Clan of the Lizard, the Clan of the Eagle and the Clan of Water.

“The complete listing shows the Clan of the Bow towards the end because this clan acted badly in the Third World. But some people of the Clan of the Bow were still important,” White Bear said. “Even if many had taken part in the destruction of the Third World, all had not left the path of the Creator. This is why they were saved.”

The second group of refugees was flown on “big birds” (aircraft). The Hopi March festival, Powamu, recalls these events. White Bear took part in this ceremony at Oraibi when he was a young man, allowing him entrance into Powamu society.

“Before the ceremony, the chief of our tribe sang a song that evoked the Third World that we had left and spoke about the malicious queen who had conquered the greatest part of the world and whose influence was so harmful,” he said, referring to the Queen of Atlantis.

“Many people were fearful during this time because the old continent, Kásskara, was sinking fast one city after another was being destroyed. The water kept rising and covered most of the continent, yet our people knew that they were to be saved,” White Bear said.

The third group consisted of those who were still at the beginning of their search for spiritual wisdom.

“My clan, the Clan of the Coyote, was part of it. I know it from my mother who belonged to this clan, like her parents,” he said. “They had a precise knowledge of these events because they kept them in their memories in order to transmit this knowledge like a heritage to the Fourth World.”

White Bear said that this third group came by boats and had to struggle for a long time. “We do not forget these events because everything that is difficult to attain is more appreciated and one will always remember it,” he noted. “The people who arrived by boats belonged to the lower clans with little power, and for this reason, they had been subjected to the influence of the Clan of the Bow with its destructive plans and motivations. Although the people in the third group took part in the destruction, they did not intend to do so, so they were offered a chance to escape,” he said.

Throughout this migration in the boats, the Kachinas protected this group. Each clan had a Kachina assigned to guide its members safely to the new continent, advising and directing them towards islands where they could rest, but White Bear said that while the Kachinas could make themselves understood, humans at first were not privileged to speak with them.

The Clan of the Flute still celebrates a ceremony that refers to these boat journeys, and in this way the Hopi remember each detail and stage of that epic ocean passage, an event which is recalled to them by a row of seven statues (moai) on Easter Island.

“These statues represent the seven worlds which we must cross,” White Bear said. “Easter Island is the only island on our way which did not sink completely in the ocean after our passage.”

On the subject of “the seven worlds” a little context might help illuminate. The Hopi actually speak of nine worlds, or universal kingdoms, which were manifested according to the Creator Taiowa’s plan. One spiritual kingdom was reserved for Taiowa and one for his “nephew”, Sotuknang. White Bear’s mention of “the seven worlds which we must cross” relates to vibratory centres (chakras) in the human being, corresponding on a physical level to the glands.

So, by means of their flying shields, aeroplanes and boats, the Kachinas shepherded Kásskaran refugees to South America in order to help them establish a colony there.

“At that time, the highest part was already above water,” White Bear explained. “But you should know that not all who survived Kásskara could come to this new continent. We, the Clan of the Coyote, were the last to arrive.

“Those who left after us were taken along by currents towards other lands because they had not been selected to come to South America. Some arrived in Hawaii, a part of the Third World that had not been destroyed. Others arrived on South Pacific islands, and some on an island which is part of Japan today, as I learned a few years ago,” White Bear said. “A young man from this island visited me. He had read Book of the Hopi and said that his grandmother had told him exactly the same stories concerning the old world.

“There were, therefore, a certain number of people who could not come to the new land, although they had the same origin and also came from Kásskara. This is why on the Hawaiian Islands the initiated people are called Kahuna, which has the same meaning as Kachina,” he added.

I’m wondering if the island that White Bear says is “part of Japan today” might be Yonaguni, located about 111 kilometres east of Hualien, Taiwan. I note that author Graham Hancock published an account of his diving experiences at Yonaguni in the 2002 book, Underworld: The Mysterious Origins of Civilization. He also addresses the subject on his website: http://grahamhancock.com/archive/underworld/”

Yonaguni —“The submarine structures at Yonaguni are apparently natural rock shaped by human hands. A Japanese visitor told White Bear that his
grandmother had related a similar origin story.”

Destiny of the Atlanteans

According to White Bear, not all the inhabitants of Atlantis perished when their continent was destroyed. Those who had not taken part in their queen’s attack on Kásskara were saved. They also wanted to come to the new continent, but the Creator had promised that the new land would belong solely to the Hopi ancestors for a long time.

“Although there were no Hopi yet on this new continent, the inhabitants of Atlantis could not come to South America. The Creator did not want to have them there,” he said. “So He sent the Kachinas to prevent them from moving towards the west because, even if the survivors had not followed their chiefs, they still remained subjects of Atlantis.”

White Bear explained that during the Third World, the people of Atlantis had also associated with Kachinas, but the Kachinas left them when the Atlanteans became malevolent.

“The Kachinas directed them east towards areas that today are called Europe and Africa. But their capacities had been removed from them. Nailed to the soil, they could not fly any more and could only survive if they left in small groups and each group carried only one small portion of the total knowledge that they had before,” White Bear said. “This is why the people in that region do not have a memory of their history which is comparable to ours,” he clarified, adding that when the Atlanteans destroyed the Third World, the Creator reduced them to a low cultural level. “But after their punishment, which lasted hundreds of years, they started to develop again. Think of the culture of the Egyptians. For us Hopi, this time is not so remote, and all of this forms part of the Hopi tradition,” White Bear advised.

Toowakachi, the Fourth World

With this Fourth World, Toowakachi, which means “beautiful country for all people”, we are in the middle of Earth and humanity’s lifespan, White Bear explained.

“We are in the fourth of a total of seven worlds which we must cross.” These are physical worlds, although they’re related to the previously mentioned seven chakras. “Three are behind us, and three are in front of us.

“This fact is expressed in our impenetrable rituals as well as in some remains which have been found in Mexico and in South America,” he said. “Timewise, we have already exceeded half of the seven worlds’ lifetime because the duration of each world to come is shorter.”

White Bear described a city called Táotoóma, about the size of modern-day Los Angeles, saying that a section of this ancient city was what we recognise as Tiwanaku (or Tiahuanaco) in today’s Bolivia.

“We call the part of the Fourth World which first emerged out of the water ‘Táotoóma’. In your language, this name means ‘the place that was touched by the arm of the Sun’. We Hopi say that it was the first part seen by the eagles, which were sent by the Kachinas. The eagles fly very high, and they saw the new country emerging from water. This is why we admire the eagles. Thus, we were in the new country, and finally the last group arrived by boat. With their arrival, the migration was complete.”

I should note that while White Bear refers to “eagles” in this passage, I suspect he’s using a noble avian symbol for the kachinas’ aerospace vehicles.

“When we stood on the coast of this continent, we looked behind us and saw that the islands had sunk. The Kachinas had given us a ‘third eye’ [perception, wisdom, insight], which allowed us to see the disappearance of our motherland and the islands,” White Bear said.

As already noted, not all of those who came to the Fourth World and who lived in Táotoóma would become the Hopi ancestors.

“We should instead say that our ancestors were among these people. Our ancestors are those who arrived at Oraibi and settled there definitively. Those are called Hopi,” White Bear said. He then provided a clue about the time scales involved.

“A rather long time passed between the arrival of the first group on the flying shields and the arrival of the last group in boats. It is said that it took 3,000 years before we all came together. All this happened a long time ago because the arrival of those who were on the flying shields took place 80,000 years ago.

We have a very simple way to speak about the long periods of time: soomody means 1,000 years. Soo means “star”, and you know how many stars there are! So the migration started 80 soomody ago.”

(While such a vast time scale requires us to reassess some of our assumptions, ongoing discoveries continue to justify such challenges to our preconceptions, forcing us to revise and expand the time range of modern human history. Consider that in 2008 a stone bracelet likely to be 40,000 years old was unearthed in Denisova Cave, Siberia. According to the Archaeological Institute of America, oxygen isotope analysis indicates that the bracelet is from “the same layer” where a Denisovan bone was found, as Dr Anatoly Derevyanko, Director of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography, told the Siberian Times [7 May 2015]. He believes that the layer in which the bracelet was discovered had not been contaminated by later human activity.)

White Bear said that those who arrived in Táotoóma could settle only in the relatively small area that had arisen from the sea, where everyone was to live together.

“That shows why my people are certain we were the first and only people on this continent. There are tribes in America which came much later because the ice had melted in the north [The Bering Land Bridge].

“A long time before all this occurred, the Creator had shown us planets. He made this formidable offer to us after we had been created as living beings, but we failed because we did not follow the instructions He had given us we did not respect His law. This is why we initially had this small portion of land—in order to learn how to dominate our feelings and live together,” he said.

The Hopi Reservation itself, in such a remote and unlikely location, may serve a similar purpose today.

Destruction of the First City

Upon arriving on the new continent, the Kásskaran refugees’ initial task was to build the first city, Táotoóma, which they sited on the lower part of a mountain.

Gradually the land area expanded as it rose from the sea, and small numbers of people began to migrate to other places.

“We could start to explore the new continent, and for this reason, we used the flying shields (spaceships). Some of us had reached a sufficient rank to accompany the Kachinas during their explorations to see how the newly founded colonies were faring,” White Bear explained.

Eventually, people again proceeded to entertain their own ideas about the correct way of following the divine Creator’s laws. They had left the correct path, White Bear said, adding that among them were people of high rank who were attracted to wealth and positions of prestige.

“They began to make bad use of Tawuya [undefined], so the Kachinas tried to prevent them from flying away into the universe. We were not allowed to go there as long as we had not fulfilled all of our obligations in this world. But these people falsely believed they were ready. The Creator became aware of what had happened, and after some time He came in person and took the city, raised it into the sky, turned it upside down and buried it in the ground. In all the area around it, one felt the enormous air blast. The soil vibrated—it was like an earthquake.

“It was a disappointment for our Creator, whom we had disobeyed. After that, our people disbanded and went in various directions. This was the first dispersal of our people on this continent.”

White Bear explained that these events transpired during the 4,000 years after the clans had assembled on the new continent, which emerged from the water looking much like it does today.

Over time, the people—especially those who had remained faithful to the Creator—left the ruins of Táotoóma, the first city built in the Fourth World. They wanted to separate themselves from the others in order to preserve their ancestral wisdom and cosmology as well as fulfil their sacred obligations.

“They founded new colonies all over South America. They did not leave all at the same time but gradually, over a long period. A Kachina was assigned to guide each group during its migration. The groups, which we call clans, had to separate in order to survive—and to successfully follow the Creator’s teachings, which belonged to the divine plan. During these migrations, the Kachinas could communicate with us and they helped us just as before,” White Bear said. “They taught us how to sow and collect the same day without waiting months for the fruits to mature.”

After the people had moved away from the ruins of the destroyed city, certain Kachinas were “intended”, or designated, for children who had not yet been born. These children were selected to transmit the true memory of past events, and White Bear noted that such events “very often arrived in [Hopi] history”.

“The child receives the knowledge when it is still in the belly of his mother. Sometimes it is the mother who receives it so that all these thoughts can penetrate the child before the birth, so the child does not need to learn later. It is only necessary to recall this knowledge which it received prior to its birth,” White Bear said.

“All of this happened over several hundred years after the migration’s beginning. But the teaching of the Kachinas made it possible to keep our traditions alive in memory.

Often Kachinas went to the Creator at the speed of light in order to inform Him of our progress on the Earth. As I’ve said, some of us had acquired high rank and had become very close to the Kachinas, who in turn allowed us to accompany them during their flights.”

The Bear Clan Migrations

White Bear related the history of the Clan of the Bear to which his father belonged, saying that he chose this clan because it was selected to serve the role of guide and leader in the Fourth World.

“I learned everything from my father and his brother who knew the history of the clans and their migrations into this hemisphere, because our ancestors were the chiefs of the Hopi and the Clan of the Bear since their arrival in the Fourth World,” he recounted.

“But first I want to tell you something my mother told me. When we left the destroyed city, the Kachinas erased the memories of all those who remained as well as their future generations. Thus, all those who later lived around the ruins did not have the faintest idea what had happened before,” he said, adding that in the Third World the Clan of the Bear was one of the least important clans.

Old Oraibi—”Photograph taken in 1899 of Old Oraibi, the original Hopi village that’s part of the Hopi Reservation in Arizona. Old Oraibi was the birthplace of Oswald “White Bear” Fredericks. In 1964, the village was declared a US National Historic Landmark.”

“It did not have a negative past and had not taken part in the destruction of the previous world, and for this reason it was selected as the dominant clan in the Fourth [current] World. It’s why the Clan of the Bear has a higher rank than the Clan of Fire, which destroyed the First World, or the Clan of the Spider and the Clan of the Bow, which destroyed the Second and the Third Worlds,” he said.

Because of the Clan of the Bear’s status among the Hopi, a Kachina of higher rank, Eototo, was assigned to guide the people of this clan, although White Bear said that Eototo was more properly referred to as a deity. Eototo stayed with them wherever they went to assure their welfare. He guided them north from South America, but they encountered very harsh conditions along the way.

“The area they had to cross was terribly hot. They spent a lot of time crossing the forests and getting used to the climate, and many children died at birth because of heat. Times were difficult. They wanted to seek mountains to leave this heat, but the Kachinas encouraged them to continue and protected them throughout the long journey through the jungle. There still exists today a ceremony that recalls this protection,” White Bear recounted.

“After a long time, they migrated out of the tropical region. The people started breathing better, the children no longer died, and the population increased. They continued moving north as Eototo guided them towards lakes and rivers. After many years [or perhaps generations?] they arrived at an ‘ice barrier’ near what we today call the US–Canada border. It prevented their further passage north. This happened about 12,000 years ago. Eototo told them that this ice sheet was a door which would be opened later for other people who would migrate towards the south.”

These, of course, are the groups that anthropologists recognise as having crossed the Bering Land Bridge, yet the Hopi say that their own people arrived first and came from the opposite direction. White Bear related how his ancestors had turned back from the ice sheet and had to move east while crossing a vast expanse of wetland until they came to the Atlantic Ocean. Eototo told them that it was the end of their journey east, and then instructed them to walk in the direction of the setting Sun.

“They obeyed and went west, arriving after many years at the Pacific Ocean,” White Bear explained. “Eototo said to them, ‘You have finished your migration and can now choose where you want to live’—but the clan did not yet know where it wanted to settle. After much investigation, it chose this place [Oraibi], where the people built their first village and where the Hopi have lived ever since.” ∞

Kásskara: Sunken Land of the Hopi Ancestors - History

mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_117,h_134,al_c,q_80,usm_0.66_1.00_0.01,blur_2/The%207%20Caves%20of%20The%20Aztecs.jpg" />

"The seven caves are often described with words associated with mouths or wombs, and the caves depicted as a maw (jaw). This may reflect something from Nahua religion, where the entire material Universe grew from the mouth of a defeated monster. In most accounts, the people emerged out of the underworld from Chicomoztoc, and settled near an island on a lake. This island was paradise, and it was called Aztlán. The Nahua people lived there for a long time, until the tyrannous rulers of Atzlán forced them into exile. The Mexica were the last to leave Aztlán and then wandered in the desert for the longest time. They finally arrived in the Valley of Mexico around 1300 CE. Since the Mexica homeland was called Aztlán, the other societies of the Valley of Mexico called these newcomers Aztecs". Study.com (2003-2019).

The current Native American Indian Hopi Tribe are the descendents of The Aztecs . Hamilton, (2002-2018) informs 'The Aasa Clan' of The Hopi consider this world to be The Fourth World, (the previous three worlds were destroyed by various catacylsms). The Aasa believe 'Kásskara' is their original home in The Third World, and Teotihuacan, was the first city built by the Kachinas as a home for the refugees of Kásskara. According to the Hopi, Kachinas are otherworldly beings with physical bodies who came to Earth in ancient times and helped them survive planetary cataclysms and directed their migrations. After helping The Hopi ancestors survive their continent's submergence and migrate to what's now the Americas, these benefactors left.

Kásskara is also called 'Lemuria' and 'Mu-Rutas' in India. The 'Aasa Clan' is related to a group formerly called 'The Astak', a group of Hopi ancestors the Spanish called 'The Aztec'.

According to Hopi mythology, "The First World, Tokpela, was destroyed by fire. The Second World, Tokpa, was destroyed by ice. Both conditions may have come about through disturbances in the earth's orbit and polar shifts. In "Kásskara: The Other Sunken Continent", a temple priest at Sais tells Solon that "a great conflagration of things upon the earth, which recurs after long intervals", caused the sinking of Atlantis, a notion consonant with The Hopis' world view. Kásskara (Lemuria) was coeval with Talawaitichqua (Atlantis) and was destroyed by water. (Hamilton, 2002-2018).

The following information is an edited account of a Hopi Elder - White Bear (belonging to The Aztec Bear Clan).

" This is the history of my ancestors and the clans which came to this continent. The continent on which my people lived for a long time sank in the sea and people had to leave it. They had to leave it and go to a land in the east to make a new beginning. Kásskara was a continent in the Pacific Ocean that sank and Hawaii is a remnant of our original motherland. Rapa Nui (Easter Island) is the last remaining of several islands that helped Kásskara n refugees cross the vast expanse of ocean to South America. Kásskara was sinking at around the same time as the submergence of Atlantis, although Atlantis went down quickly due to its heavier negative karma. Because Kásskara 's offences were not as serious, the retribution Kásskara ns suffered was lighter and the destruction happened more slowly. The population had time to flee.

Out of the long story of The Hopis arises a warning for you. This is why I speak now. That concerns us all. Perhaps this warning will not come too late. Mankind lived in two other worlds (Tokpela and Tokpa) before emerging into The Third World which included Kásskara and Atlantis, and then into our present Fourth World. These successive "worlds" generally correspond to various continents and time periods during which The Hopi's antecedents were granted protection by The Kachinas.

The name of The Third World was Kásskara . We also call it 'the country of the sun' because we like to refer to the sun and the soil which keep us alive. Kásskara was a continent situated mostly south of the equator with a small portion in the north and is probably identical with what we today call Lemuria, or Mu. It was a very beautiful country. Compared with today, it was almost a paradise. We worked, but we did not need to work hard.

To the east of Kásskara was "Talawaitichqua," or the "Eastern country", a word that means roughly, "Land of the Morning Sun". There was a large "surface of water" between Kásskara and Talawaitichqua - the land we now call "Atlantis". At the beginning of The Third World the people of Atlantis were as peaceful as us. We have of course the same divine origin. They had the same symbols as us but with time they changed. They started to explore the secrets of The Creator that man should not know. There exist secrets which are only intended for the divinity, and when men started to study them they infringed on this law. In fact man has the same capacity as The Creator, but The Creator maintains secrets that men should not seek to understand. For example, your civilisation developed many things like aeroplanes. When my Uncle led me to Oraibi to see the ancient inscription of a jet, which is naturally much older than your jets of today, he said to me, 'It would be very good to fly again through the air as our people did in the past". When there is a catastrophe somewhere far away, one can bring help like food drugs and tools. But a plane can also bring death to men hundreds of miles away, and in doing that, one will disobey the divine law. The Hopi do not oppose technology and endorse research that will help man stay alive and healthy. The Creator wants us to do it. He wants us to benefit from our life and have as little heavy work as possible and all that is good - all the joy, all the happiness of this world should become ours. But now researchers try to produce artificial life, and one day also a human. Well, these things you should not do. The Divine Creator said to us, 'If you want to be my children, you should not use your knowledge to destroy kill, or misuse what I gave you. If you do not respect this law you are not my children".

There were among us people who had become avid seekers of status and power. Their religious belief became weaker, and people did not have much respect any more for one another. We were in a situation which one can compare very well with the current situation. Within time the influence of Kickmongwuity led to a schism between our people. She started to get some of our people on her side, those men seeking power I mentioned. They walked away from our laws and said to themselves, "If we choose the side of the people of Atlantis and accept their requirements we might later acquire a fair share of the power". The malicious ones took over. They had studied many secrets of The Creator that humanity should not know but we did not take part in this. We wanted to be and remain peaceful people. I believe that actually it was The Creator who used his capacity to keep us away from these things.

The chiefs met many times. But the group of those who had scientific knowledge were much stronger, and they came to attack my people with the material of their capacities and their invention. From very high in the air they directed their magnetic force on our cities. But those of our people who had not left the true way of our Creator were gathered in a certain area in order to be saved. The Hopi believe that technological civilisations have arisen previously, much further back in time than most conventionally educated people can accept. Our general cultural timeline sets Western civilisation as being about six thousand years old, largely due to the biblical Genesis with its 4004 BC start date for creation. We vaguely acknowledge that the ancient cultures of China and India might be eight or ten thousand years old, but the notion that there existed any advanced civilisation before the end of the last Ice Age just isn't occurring to most of us. As writer Graham Hancock says so elegantly, "We're a species with amnesia". Yet, in the Dialogues of Timaeus and Critias, even Plato's unfinished account of Atlantis suggests that we should push back the dates of civilisation to at least 11 thousand years. In the account Solon is told by an Egyptian temple priest at Sais of Egypt's ancient age. "O Solon, Solon, you Hellenes are never anything but children, and there is not an old man among you," the priest said. Solon asked him what he meant. "I mean to say that in mind you are all young there is no old opinion handed down among you by ancient tradition, nor any science which is hoary with age. And I will tell you why. There have been, and will be again, many destructions of man arising out of many causes the greatest have been brought about by the agencies of fire and water, and other lesser ones by innumerable other causes. T he priest explains to Solon that certain myths actually refer to astronomical phenomena. .

"Kickmongwuity, the Queen of Atlantis, had been threatening Kásskara with destruction from weapons that could be fired from space. Our people had knowledge comparable with those (people) of Atlantis, but we used it only for good and useful ends. We studied the secrets of nature, the power of The Creator in the living things. Our ancestors did not seek revenge and avoided killing even to defend themselves. My people did not defend themselves when Kásskara was attacked. And it was right! If that seems strange to you, look at what The Hopis do today. The government of the United States gave us a reservation. Can you imagine? And then they kept coming to cut pieces out of it. They reduced our country more and more. Each time the government does that we say, 'It is not right', as we were instructed by The Creator.

All the bombs or whatever it was exploded far above our heads in Kásskara , and the shield protected all people who were to be saved and had been gathered in a certain area. Only we were saved. Cities were attacked and many people perished, then, the two continents sank". Other Hopi Tribes inform those who followed The Creator's ways, escaped the rising waters by crawling up through a bamboo reed that pierced the sky and stuck up into the next world (The Fourth World) like a ladder.

However, the destruction was not universal the entire Earth was not destroyed, and not all men were killed. But Atlantis disappeared very quickly in the ocean and our Third World, Kásskara , disappeared very slowly. The power external to the human capacity did not allow that the people of peace be destroyed completely. These people were reincarnations of men who had lived in The Second World, Tokpa, and who had followed the laws of The Creator. It was his will to give to those who were to be saved the means of succeeding. We were saved and we came here because since The First World - Tokpela, we always obeyed the divine laws".

The Hopi wait patiently on their remote mesas for our version of civilisation to disappear, which it inevitably must because it is disharmonious with the laws of the universe.

Taiowa - The Hopi Creator and The Kachinas.

In The First World, "The Taiowa" divinity created the human being and all things in this universe. He gave us brains and the capacity for knowledge. He gave man all he needs in his life, and he gave him the laws and duties in this universe, which man must obey. The First World was destroyed by fire because people had become malicious. But his people - those who in more recent times became The Hopis - survived the destruction because they had been selected to preserve the knowledge through time. The Second World was destroyed by ice. Once again, Taiowa survived and arrived in The Third World - The Third Continent. All these and later events are still alive in Hopi ceremonies.

mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_114,h_155,al_c,q_80,usm_0.66_1.00_0.01,blur_2/2015%20-%201_edited.jpg" />

Since our beginnings in The First World we had followed the plan of our Creator and cultivated our food ourselves. In these times we had chosen corn as our principal food, and we brought it to The Second World and we continued to live with it in The Third World. The plants and animals could communicate with our people, and we had scientific knowledge but did not use it to manufacture objects that hurt people. People then had respect for one another. The clans had their own bosses, but they had in common a respected spiritual leader. In the life of The Hopis there always was a clan which had supremacy for a certain time in order to ensure that we fulfilled well our obligations and responsibilities - like our good behaviour in life. When we inherited this world, The Clan of The Bow held the leadership. For this reason the tribe chief of The Clan of The Bow was Kásskara 's sovereign.

At the beginning all was well in Kásskara . Much later the men gradually began to lose the respect for one another initially a few, then more and more.

mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_94,h_122,al_c,q_80,usm_0.66_1.00_0.01,blur_2/Queen%20of%20Atlantis.jpg" />

Towards the end of The Third World, a very powerful and beautiful woman called Kickmongwuity rose to power as the Queen of Atlantis. She used her beauty to manipulate the chiefs of her people, receiving so many jewels that she received the nickname "The Turquoise Woman". Kickmongwuity used her powers to subject these personalities, including scientists and politicians, and in this way she became sovereign of the entire continent. Atlantis was similar to England - a small country with great influence. Atlantis eventually extended its influence farther to the east in what is today Europe and Africa. The inhabitants of Atlantis had researched secrets of The Creator for which they were not spiritually ready. They had obtained knowledge of such things too early and used it to subjugate other people, and in doing so infringed on the divine order. They also studied other planets, and they even went there. These were dead planets where no one could live, so they had thus to remain on our good old Earth. Atlantis turned against Kásskara : They knew that morally and spiritually we were much stronger, and that made them envious. This is also why the Queen wanted to conquer our country and to subjugate our people. She threatened our sovereign and said that she would join together all her spaceships above our continent and destroy us from up there. But he refused to give in. For a long time talks were held, which one can also call conferences. All the great men of that time held meetings.

The 7 Caves of The Aztecs

"There is a story, which even you (Greeks) have preserved, that once upon a time Phaeton, the son of Helios, having yoked the steeds in his father's chariot, was not able to drive them in the path of his father and burnt up all that was upon the earth, and was himself destroyed by a thunderbolt. Now this has the form of a myth, but really signifies a declination of the bodies moving in the heavens around the earth, and a great conflagration of things upon the earth, which recurs after long intervals which may suggest why many ancient cultures diligently monitored astronomical cycles.

Like The Hopi, the temple priest knew that over the ages technological civilis ations have been destroyed by cataclysms and forgotten.

White Bear said he and other elders had met in a kiva at Shongopovi (Hopiland) to discuss their current situation. "We see at this moment occur the same things as those that occurred right before the destruction of The Third World. We are concerned because we know what will arrive. We know that we have reached the point of no return".

Kásskara: Sunken Land of the Hopi Ancestors - History

Tawa, the Sun spirit of the Hopi People

Robert Morning Sky & Anton Parks

Anyone who is familiar with my books and other writings will be aware that I have been a fan of Apache-Hopi elder Robert Morning Sky and his work for about two decades now. Recently, that is, in the past few years, I have also become a fan of French writer Anton Parks and books. So, it should come as no surprise, that I would want to elaborate on a story that brings these two writers into the same context.

The story is Kasskara, or Lemuria. It is an amazing migration story told by Polar Bear, a Hopi elder, and that was only recently translated from German into English. This is a story that has been passed on from generation to generation by the Hopi people who maintain a history and a tradition of migration from the mother continent. The migration occurred as a result of war between Lemuria and Atlantis. Those who know about the remnants of Lemuria who currently live in the underground city of Telos will learn that the same story of war between these two super cultures is told.

Points of note in Kasskara and the Seven Worlds

There are several interesting points of note in the book Kasskara and the Seven Worlds (German version is Kasskara und die Sieben Welten), that I shall attach at the end of this article. I created the book for my own use, from Anton Park’s website, so the PDF looks like a downloaded website. Just beware of that.

The first point of note that I would like to highlight is the discussion surrounding the Kachina. Now, it is well known that among the Hopi, the Kachina are revered beings, like gods or guides. While reading this book, I couldn’t help thinking that the Kachina are the same group, or an affiliated group of the guardians. In Anton Parks’ works, the guardians are referred to as ‘the kadistu’. I got this strong sense that the guardians helped the Hopi and affiliated people to migrate from Kasskara, or Lemuria. The Kachina give me the feel of the being “RA” from the Law of One materials. This RA group is also a member of the guardian collective. I write about the guardians in my book The Guardians, Earth Humans, and Ascension.

The second point of note is the education system that was from Kasskara, or Lemuria. Really fascinating stuff. There was a four-level pyramid building used for learning. On the ground floor, schooling is about the history of the people. On the second floor, it is basically about science, and the natural world. It is also on the second floor that students learn to open and use their “third eye”. The third eye is a “psychic” eye, not a physical one. It is connected to the function of the pineal gland, which is inside the brain.

Those who graduate past the first two floors get to the third floor. Here, they learn about body, mind and spirit. Isn’t that interesting. Science was seen as education at a more rudimentary stage. At the third floor, students begin to learn universal laws and secrets from the point of view of spirituality. Finally, at the fourth floor, the students learn about the universe, about the cosmic, about creation and about divinity. Those who graduate through this school, to go through all four levels, can become masters and guides for the people.

The third point of note, is in relation to the second about education. If you read the Kasskara book, you will learn that those who reach the highest level become known as Naquala. They are advisors and benefactors. To these people, the Kachinas grant eternal life. These high ranking spiritually accomplished individuals need not die. The Kachina grant them immortality. You can read that to mean the guardians grant immortality, or ascension, to those initiates who achieve the high rank. Now, to me, Naquala is the same as Nagual. Carlos Castaneda and Don Juan, go figure! I always suspected that the root of Castaneda’s system was ultimately in Lemuria.

A fourth and final point of note (and there are many other points for those interested), is a possible connection between the knowledge stream that came to the Hopis from Lemuria, and the Kalachakra tantra of Asia, which I have strong reason to believe is also ultimately connected to Lemuria. That connection is too deep, and it goes beyond the scope of this article. Suffice to say that other writers such as James Churchward who have written extensively about Lemuria talk about how “Mayas” migrated from the mother continent to the Americas. Other groups migrated to Asia and to Africa.

So, when the Ewe people of Ghana claim that they migrated to Africa from Lemuria, don’t think it so strange. There are accounts such as this Hopi one, that are just as fascinating as the one the Ewe people of Ghana have. The late Credo Mutwa believed that some Africans came to the African continent from another continent that is now sunken in the ocean. We need to keep our minds open to fantastic possibilities, in order to examine and learn the kind of knowledge that can break the bounds of mental entrapment by limiting beliefs. To me, “expanded reality” is much stranger and often much more interesting than “consensus reality” and its “official line”.

Kasskara: Sunken Land of Hopi Ancestors/Migration to the Fourth World

A long time before Kasskara and Atlantis were "absorbed into the earth" as White Bear described it, the Kachinas noticed that to the east, a continent was emerging out of the water. "It was the same country as that we had lived on in our Second World, Topka, but its appearance was different, so now we called it the Fourth World," White Bear said. He explained how global cataclysms can occur periodically, inducing massive geological changes:

"According to our traditions, the Earth has switched its poles several times, meaning that the North Pole was at the place where the South Pole is currently and vice versa. Today the poles are reversed--the North Pole is in the south and the South Pole in the north. In the Fifth World it will change again. On each occasion the Earth tilted completely from north to south and not half way. That would have caused too much damage, and that was not the intention of the Creator, except once during Topka, the Second World, when the Earth tilted only halfway and everything froze."

The Kachinas observed this new land, and when it was fully above the water, they began preparing for a great migration to the emerging continent that would become their motherland, White Bear explained. "The Hopi call it the Fourth World: Toowakachi. He also noted the word Sistaloakha, which designates everything that is created quickly and in perfect form. The Creator had decided to save them, he said, and directed the Kachinas to help the people reach this new continent.

These emigrants arrived from the Third World to the Fourth in three types of vehicles, White Bear said. The initial group arrived in "flying shields" (spaceships). These were assigned to important, high-ranking people who had priority because they were tasked with establishing the new colony. As these people arrived first, they were highly esteemed. The Kachinas, being space travelers, knew where the new land was, and they brought these leaders first. "The Kachinas could do that because they had flying shields," White Bear said. "Our people did not have them, and we could not build them, but you recall that people of Atlantis also had flying shields. They had not received them from the Kachinas, who had left them behind. The Atlanteans built them with their malevolent power as I have already told you," White Bear said, describing the process we today call "reverse engineering".

The first clans arrived here a long time before Kasskara completely sank. Among the more important of the groups that arrived by the flying shields included the Clan of Fire, the Clan of the Snake, the Clan of the Spider, the Clan of the Bow, the Clan of the Lizard, the Clan of the Eagle and the Clan of Water. "The complete listing shows the Clan of the Bow towards the end because this clan acted badly in the Third World. But some people of the Clan of the Bow were still important," White Bear said. "Even if many had taken part in the destruction of the Third World, all had not left the path of the Creator. This is why they were saved."

The second group of people was transported on "big birds" (aeroplanes). The Hopis' March festival, Powamu, recalls these events. White Bear took part in this ceremony at Oraibi when he was a young man, which allowed him entrance to the Powamu society. "Before the ceremony, the chief of our tribe sang a song that evoked the Third World that we had left and spoke about the malicious queen who had conquered the greatest part of the world and whose influence was so harmful," he said.

Many people were fearful during this time because the old continent, Kasskara, was sinking fast--one city after another was being destroyed. The water kept rising and covered most of the continent. Yet our people knew that they were to be saved.

The third group consisted of those who were still at the beginning of their search for spiritual power. "My clan, the Clan of the Coyotes (on maternal side), was part of it. I know it from my mother who belonged to this clan, like her parents," he said. "They had a precise knowledge of these events because they kept them in their memories in order to transmit this knowledge like a heritage to the Fourth World."

White Bear said these people came by boats and had to struggle for a long time. While many people could come by air, others had to fight to arrive on this continent. "We do not forget these events because everything that is difficult to obtain is more appreciated and one will always remember it," he noted. "The people who arrived by boats belonged to the lower clans with little power, and for this reason they had been subjected to the influence of the Clan of the Bow with its destructive plans and motivations. Although the people in the third group took part in the destruction, they did not intend to do so, so they were offered a chance to escape," he said. Throughout this group's migration in the boats, they accepted the protection of the Kachinas. Each clan had a Kachina assigned to guide its members safely to the new continent. "The Kachinas could make themselves understood, but humans did not have the privilege to speak with them. The Kachinas advised and directed them towards islands where they could rest," White Bear said.

The Clan of the Flute celebrates a ceremony that refers to this boat journey, and in this way the Hopi remember each detail and stage of that epic ocean passage, an event which is recalled to them by a row of seven statues (moai) on Easter Island (Rapa Nui). "These statues represent the seven worlds which we must cross," White Bear said. "Easter Island is the only island on our way which did not sink completely in the ocean after our passage."

On the subject of the "seven worlds" that White Bear mentions, a little context might help illuminate. The Hopi actually speak of "Nine Worlds" or "universal kingdoms", which were manifested according to the Creator Taiowa's plan. One kingdom was reserved for Taiowa, and one for his "nephew" Sotuknang. The other seven "worlds we must cross" are related to vibratory centers (chakras) in the human being, corresponding on a physical level to the glands.

By these means people were shepherded to the South American continent in order to be established there. White Bear described it:

"At that time the highest part was already above water. But you should know that not all who survived Kasskara could come here. We, the Clan of the Coyotes (on his mother's side), were the last to arrive. Those who left after us were taken along by currents towards other lands because they had not been selected to come here. Some arrived in Hawaii, a part of the Third World that had not been destroyed. Others arrived on southern Pacific Islands and others on an island which is part of Japan today, as I learned a few years ago," White Bear said. "A young man from this island visited me. He had read the Book of Hopi. He came to tell me that his grandmother told him exactly the same stories concerning the old world. There are, therefore, a certain number of people who could not come here although they have the same origin and come from the same continent: Kasskara. This is why on Hawaiian Islands the initiated people are called Kahuna, which was the same word as Kachina.
